Emiliano Zapata (1879-1919) Hero of the Mexican Revolution of 1910. Known as the "Little Tiger" Emiliano Zapata lead a guerrilla army against the Mexican state which protected wealthy landowners under the hacienda system. Zapata was betrayed and murdered in April 1919, but death could hardly crush his spirit. Today, the "Zapatistas" of southern Mexico, who take their name from Zapata, carry on his struggle for land, freedom and dignity…"Freedom Fighters"
